Once you live the night, you want more.
There are several reasons to show up at a party: boredom, your friends, your ex, the hype, or simply drug use. Sometimes it's the hot neighbor, peer pressure, or just a virtual post. The fact is, someone is always luring you in. For me, the whole techno-untz-untz-addiction-to-basements-nonsense began on a mild late summer evening a few years ago. A small car, completely overloaded, a Shirkhan CD at full volume, and a desire for something new. Slightly disappointed by the monotonous club visit, we wanted to move on, but weren't sure what to expect at the suggested location. We heard someone was having a party on a factory floor.
Arriving on a dark side street, we thought there must have been a mistake. But once we got out, we heard a faint, dull thumping. We were in the right place after all. Now curiosity drove us. We started searching. Through a torn fence, past a half-excavated construction pit, from behind into the small door of an old building. Up to the fourth floor. Wow. We found ourselves in a sea of tea lights that provided the dim lighting. It was pleasantly soft under our feet: carpet. How on earth did the carpet get there? There were about 200 casually dressed people, chatting, drinking, and dancing with happy, relaxed expressions. On closer inspection, I discovered a generator powering the sound system. I was captivated, euphoric, and happy. Why would someone organize such an event with so much love, what was the motivation?
proud has caught up with some of the people behind this movement. People we know and appreciate personally. People whose parties make you happy to see each other again and where guests praise each other. Somehow, we're a little proud to be a part of it. And that goes double.
