Why all this anyway
Why all this party scene and not something meaningful?
I already had allegedly meaningful things in my employee existence, but somehow it wasn't for me.
What was your first event?
The “MalZwei” in Kreuzberg. It was actually a rather small affair; five to six people helped prepare the event rooms. We then had about 150 party guests. Before the event, money was scraped together to buy a sound system. At that time, we drove around a lot in an old Opel Rekord and gathered things; a lot of manual work was done! Unfortunately, I also suffered a nice back injury from that... When it gets a bit colder, everything hurts again.
Nasty business, are there any other problems?
Yes, when you try to take the next step, which means legality, you get blocked by various authorities. That's really a point where I don't understand the state. It demands taxes, wants money, but try to get a permit for anything?! The officials in the offices want you to submit a concept that they themselves understand. Of course, most of them don't understand what someone from the Berlin party scene wants to do when they just sit in their smoky offices all day stamping documents, and ultimately you have to do it the way you originally wanted to. Organizing also has a lot to do with spontaneity. Mostly a temporary series of parties in different locations. You just can't spend that much time on it. It's not a classic event where three or four packed trucks arrive and set up a huge lighting system. Everything happens through “manpower” and friends, and unfortunately, I simply don't understand why the German state doesn't support something like that. It often just doesn't make sense. Anyone who has ever tried to legally register even a bar will find eight offices blocking and hindering each other until they lose interest.
